Job summary

WSP USA is seeking an ESSP Electrical Engineer for our Portland, OR office. Candidates in Boise, ID; Seattle, WA or Clarkston, WA may also be considered. You will contribute to the ESSP team on power delivery, protection studies, and related design activities.

The successful candidate will apply fundamentals of three‑phase power, perform protective relaying analyses, and prepare technical reports and calculations, collaborating with a multidisciplinary team on challenging grid projects.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited engineering degree required (BSEE/BSEET/BSCE).
• 3–5 years of design or device configuration experience in electrical engineering.
• Strong understanding of electrical engineering principles and permitting processes.
• Excellent communication skills for coordination with engineering and non-engineering audiences.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with attention to safety policies.

Responsibilities

• Perform protective relaying analyses and relay settings calculations.
• Conduct power system planning studies including steady-state load flow and stability analysis.
• Assist with substation design studies and grounding, insulation coordination, and power quality assessments.
• Prepare technical reports, sketches, calculations, and documentation.
• Support field/site work coordination and permitting activities.
• Collaborate with project managers and technical staff to identify risks and mitigation strategies.
• Engage in training on assigned tasks and adapt to project needs.
