Job summary

WSP USA is seeking an ESSP Electrical Engineer to join our team supporting Albuquerque, NM or Las Vegas, NV offices. You will work in the ESSP (Electrical Studies, SCADA & Protection) Team on projects involving protective relaying, planning studies, design studies, and networking for power systems.

The role emphasizes three-phase power fundamentals across generation facilities, substations, transmission, and distribution systems.

Qualifications

• BSEE or equivalent ABET-accredited degree required.
• 3–5 years of industry experience in design or device configuration.
• Solid understanding of electrical engineering principles and project work.
• Analytical mindset with sound judgment.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills for engineering and non-engineering audiences.
• Self-led, detail-oriented, able to multi-task in dynamic environments.
• Ability to work independently or in teams to meet objectives.
• Proficiency in technical writing, software, and office tools.
• Commitment to workplace safety and policy adherence.
• Willingness to travel as project needs require.

Responsibilities

• Perform electrical studies, SCADA, and protection system work.
• Develop protection schemes, relay settings, and coordination studies.
• Conduct power system planning and stability analyses.
• Support design studies for grounding, insulation coordination, and QA/QC.
• Configure RTU networks and SCADA communications (DNP/IEC61850).
• Prepare technical reports with findings and clear conclusions.
• Collaborate with project management and field teams.
• Assist with work plans and site coordination as needed.
• Travel to project sites to support commissioning and testing.
