Job summary

City of Mesa – Engineering Department seeks Electrical Engineer I or II to support the electric utility and capital projects. The role spans design, field oversight, and coordination with City departments to ensure Mesa infrastructure meets city standards.

The I level focuses on load calculations, transformer sizing, and preliminary design, using AutoCAD and GIS in daily work. The II level adds senior responsibilities, including system studies and mentoring junior staff.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related field; power systems coursework preferred.
• EIT certification required prior to hire or promotion for the II level is preferred.
• AutoCAD experience is preferred.
• Proficiency with GIS is beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Electrical Engineer I: assist with planning, design, and operation of the City’s electric utility; perform load calculations; size transformers and conductors; evaluate voltage configurations; assist with cost estimates and material specs; prepare drawings with AutoCAD and GIS.
• Electrical Engineer II: lead higher‑level design, planning, and operation of the electric utility and CIP projects; conduct system studies; review designs for NESC compliance; perform electrical calculations and cost analyses; provide technical direction to staff; extend knowledge of power systems and distribution design.
