The City of Mesa is seeking an Electrical Engineer I/II for its Engineering Department. The current vacancy will be filled at either the Electrical Engineer I or Electrical Engineer II level, with the recruitment also establishing a Citywide eligibility list for potential future vacancies.This position supports both the City's Capital Improvement Program (CIP) and the operation, maintenance, planning, and improvement of the City of Mesa electric utility.
Engineering manages the design and construction of Mesa infrastructure projects including the procurement of these services. We also coordinate with private developers and other entities, such as non-city utilities, to ensure that our infrastructure is built to Mesa standards and the land and rights of way are used for the benefit of the public.
The role provides an opportunity to work on practical electrical engineering projects that directly affect the community, including electric distribution infrastructure, municipal facilities, utility systems, and major capital projects.
The position combines engineering design, project management, utility operations, construction oversight, electrical system analysis, and coordination with other City departments and outside agencies.
The Electrical Engineer I is an entry-level position that supports the planning, design, and operation of the City's electric utility. Tasked with projects both overhead and underground, engineers will:
This position uses AutoCAD and GIS to prepare drawings, maps, and other technical documents in their day-to-day work. Engineers will also be in the field, inspecting and reviewing installations for compliance with city standards and design specifications.
The Electrical Engineer II position is responsible for the higher-level design, planning, and operation of the City's electric utility, and complex CIP projects. Responsibilities include:
As a more advanced position, the Electrical Engineer II will provide technical direction (and training) to lower-level staff, review their work, and make recommendations regarding electric system procedures, expansion plans, and system improvements. Candidates should have a strong knowledge of power systems, electric distribution design, utility equipment and materials, engineering principles, and applicable regulations. Extended experience with AutoCad, GIS, and utility engineering software is preferred.
