Job summary

Amentum seeks an Electrical & Controls Engineer to support power generation and facility systems in McLean, VA. You will lead electrical maintenance, plan preventive work, document regulatory compliance, and supervise electricians and control technicians in an industrial setting.

You will work with SCADA (IFIX) and FOXBORO DCS, manage control logic changes, and ensure reliable plant operation. Travel may occur to support outages and site projects as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology or Electrical/Mechanical Engineering Technology from an accredited institution.
• 2-4 years of engineering experience in power generation, industrial facilities, manufacturing, utilities, or facility operations.
• Internship or cooperative education experience in industrial or power systems preferred.
• Fundamental understanding of electrical power systems, motors, generators, transformers, switchgear, and protective devices.
• Knowledge of preventive maintenance principles.
• Basic understanding of electrical drawings, one-line diagrams, and schematics.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
• Familiarity with CMMS is preferred.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to work both independently and in a team.
• Willingness to support weekends when scheduled.

Responsibilities

• Crafting, revising electrical switching procedures; coordinate all site power switching / reconfiguration tasks.
• Supervise and provide technical expertise to union members in maintenance and testing of electrical equipment.
• Troubleshoot power delivery equipment; research and procure parts.
• Provide engineering input to recap projects and craft scopes of work for bids.
• Master control algorithms of plant systems (SCADA, DCS); troubleshoot plant operations.
• Interface with client engineering teams to support tasks.
• Review electrical drawings and diagrams for accuracy and updates.
• Assist in root cause analysis and corrective actions.
• Coordinate with operations to minimize downtime.
• Monitor performance and identify efficiency improvements.
• Support commissioning, testing, and startup of electrical equipment.
