Job summary
ABB seeks a skilled Controls/Automation Field Engineer for the Mid-Atlantic Electrification Services Division. This hybrid role blends field engineering with hands-on power infrastructure work to ensure reliable operation of critical systems.
The candidate will program PLCs, configure HMIs, and develop electrical layouts, supporting startup, commissioning, and maintenance activities while traveling ~50% of the time. A Bachelor's in engineering plus 5 years of field experience is expected.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's in Engineering or 8+ years field experience
- Minimum 5 years of field engineering experience
- Experience with PLC automation tools (Emerson/ABB)
- Proficiency in PLC programming (Proficy Machine Edition, ABB Automation Builder)
- HMI development experience (Cimplicity/Wonderware)
- AutoCAD for electrical design
Responsibilities
- Program and configure PLC systems, distributed I/O, and HMI interfaces
- Startup, commissioning, and maintenance of projects
- Develop electrical layouts, schematics, and network architectures
- Troubleshoot switchgear and circuit breakers
- Ensure projects meet time and budget objectives
