Job summary

Arc is hiring a Mechanical Engineer to design propulsion and drivetrain systems for marine vessels, collaborating with naval architects on hull-to-machinery integration and packaging. You will own thermal and fluid systems, perform analyses, and drive design-for-manufacture with suppliers.

The role requires hands-on work in the shop and on water, including sea trials. You will release drawings and specifications, support regulatory compliance, and contribute to a fast-paced marine

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Marine Engineering or related field.
  • 3+ years releasing mechanical production designs for vessels or vehicles.
  • Proficiency with 3D CAD (SolidWorks, NX, or CATIA) and PDM/PLM workflows.
  • Hands-on style, able to work in shop and on the water, including sea trials.

Responsibilities

  • Design marine propulsion and drivetrain systems, including shafting, couplings, mounts, seals, bearings, and steering hardware.
  • Collaborate with naval architects on hull-to-machinery integration — packaging, weight and LCG, foundation loads, and appendage interfaces.
  • Own thermal and fluid systems across the vessel, including cooling loops, pumps, plumbing, bilge, and ventilation.
  • Run structural, thermal, and hydrodynamic analysis to size and validate components before they get built.
  • Build and execute test plans on the bench, at the dock, and on the water, then turn that data back into design changes.
  • Release drawings, GD&T, BOMs, and specifications, and drive DFM/DFA with manufacturing and supply chain.
  • Partner with electrical and controls engineers to integrate Arc's powertrain into the vessel.
  • Support USCG, ABS, and ISO compliance and evaluating suppliers for critical marine hardware.
