Job summary

Xavier University invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure-track Assistant Professor of Instruction in English Language Arts, starting Fall 2027. The hire will teach ELA methods coursework across Elementary, Secondary, and Special Education programs, supporting licensure candidates and supervising field experiences.

The role includes service within the School of Education and maintaining relationships with schools and districts.

Qualifications

Doctorate required in English Education, Literacy, Curriculum and Instruction, or closely related field.
A valid professional educator license or ability to be licensed in Ohio within the first year.
Reading Endorsement or willingness to obtain one in Ohio within the first year.
Minimum 5 years’ related K-12 teaching experience while holding a professional educator license.
Commitment to Xavier University’s Jesuit Catholic mission and identity.
Excellent organizational, oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team within the School of Education.

Responsibilities

Provide instruction for ELA education and teacher preparation courses.
Advise and mentor students pursuing licensure.
Collaborate with Program Directors and Field Coordinator regarding field experiences in ELA.
Contribute to the service responsibilities of the School of Education, College, and University.
Maintain student records and data to ensure licensure requirements are met.
Sustain and develop relationships with area schools and districts.
