  • A state Reading Endorsement, or willingness to obtain one in Ohio within the first year.
  • Minimum 5 years’ related K-12 teaching experience while holding a professional educator license.

Responsibilities

  • Provide instruction for a variety of ELA education and teacher preparation courses, including elementary and secondary ELA methods courses.
  • Advise and mentor students pursuing licensure.
  • Collaborate with Program Directors and Field Coordinator regarding field experiences related to ELA instruction.
  • Contribute to the service responsibilities of the School of Education, College, and University.
  • Maintain student records and data, ensuring licensure requirements are met and supporting accreditation.
  • Sustain and develop relationships with area schools and districts.

Assistant Professor of Instruction, English Language Arts

The School of Education at Xavier University invites applicationsfor a full-time, non-tenure-track Assistant Professor ofInstruction specializing in English Language Arts (ELA), beginningFall 2027. This position will teach ELA methods coursework withinthe Elementary, Secondary, and Special Education programs,supporting candidates pursuing initial licensure. The position alsoprovides service within the School of Education, includingsupervision of field placements and maintaining relationships withschool and district partners. This position reports to School ofEducation leadership. Visa sponsorship is not available for thisposition.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Provide instruction for a variety of ELA education and teacherpreparation courses, including elementary and secondary ELA methodscourses.
  • Advise and mentor students pursuing licensure.

Required Qualifications

  • An understanding of and commitment to Xavier University’sJesuit Catholic mission and identity.
  • Excellent organizational, oral, written, and interpersonalcommunication skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team withinthe School of Education.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience teaching both elementary literacy instruction andsecondary ELA.
  • Experience supervising student teachers or clinical fieldexperiences.
  • Collegiate teaching experience.
  • Experience with curriculum design in primary literacy and/orsecondary ELA.
  • Additional credentials such as TESOL endorsement.
Teaching Load, Non-Tenure-Track:

The teaching expectation is 24 credit hours annually for thisnon-tenure-track faculty position.
