Job Summary:
The Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist assists the EHS Manager in designing systems, processes, or equipment for water, air, or soil quality control, management, or remediation.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Comply with environmental laws and regulations.
- Track site performance, identify deficiencies, and report to management.
- Train employees on SOPs and safety protocols.
- Assist in managing wastewater treatment and hygiene facilities.
- Ensure safety protocol adherence and report violations.
- Collaborate with maintenance for environmental utilities.
- Write environmental investigation and recommendation reports.
- Evaluate occupational exposures to chemicals and maintain records.
- Monitor and record blood lead levels.
- Identify and report EHS issues affecting operations.
- Maintain procedures to minimize waste and ensure compliance.
- Support daily EHS operations and process management.
- Develop communication within production operations.
- Assist in EHS management system improvements.
- Design safe workspaces to minimize hazards.
- Support EHS programs like LOTO, Hazard Communication, Emergency Response, etc.
- Perform activities safely, supporting policies and procedures.
- This position is primarily night shift, with flexible shifts including weekends and possible overtime or emergency call-ins.
- Collect data on air emissions for compliance.
- Check safety equipment and maintain documentation.
- Use of respirators may be required.
- Participate in engineering and Industrial Hygiene projects.
- Package hazardous chemicals for disposal.
- May share responsibility for on-site medical services.
- Other duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Excellent communication skills, including speaking, listening, reading, and writing.
- Critical thinking and troubleshooting skills.
- Attention to detail.
- Basic computer skills and MS Office knowledge.
- High ethical standards, integrity, and legal compliance.
- Exposure to fumes, airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, and noise.
- Physical ability to climb, bend, squat, reach, grasp, and handle objects up to 35 pounds.
- Vision abilities: close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, focus adjustment.
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Safety & Health, or related field (preferred).
- Manufacturing experience (strongly preferred).
Required Competencies:
- Knowledge of EHS laws and OSHA standards.
- Teamwork and organizational skills.
- Problem-solving using scientific methods.
- Ability to influence and communicate effectively.
- Work efficiently under pressure with deadlines.
- Attention to detail and time management skills.
Work Environment/Physical Demands:
- Frequent exposure to fumes, particles, moving parts, vibration, and loud noise.
- Physical activities including climbing, bending, and lifting up to 40 pounds.
- Work with hazardous materials with PPE adherence.
- Moving office equipment up to 25 pounds.
- Wearing PPE in production areas.
- Passing physical and pulmonary function tests required.
