Job summary

Kent ISD in Grand Rapids, Michigan is seeking an Information Technology Technician to provide tier 1 and 2 staff and student support across districts. The position is non-Union Hourly Classified, Grade 5, 8 hours per day, 260 days per year, year-round.

The role focuses on ensuring technology is available to support the educational process, with duties including diagnostics, deployment, software guidance, and collaboration with vendors.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in CIS or related field preferred.
  • Certification as IT Technician preferred (CompTIA A+ or Microsoft Certified IT Professional).
  • Must have technical knowledge and experience in desktop installation and troubleshooting of Windows, Mac OS, iOS and Android operating systems with experience in Chrome OS helpful.
  • Must have the ability to remotely troubleshoot hardware and software issues.
  • Must be knowledgeable in Active Directory for both user and management aspects.
  • Needs technical knowledge and experience in desktop installation and troubleshooting of educational and office applications (e.g., Microsoft Office, PowerSchool, Adobe Creative Suite, Sophos Anti-virus, FileMaker Pro, AutoCAD, SCCM, Track-it, TeamViewer, Camtasia, Java, Kronos).
  • Must have the ability to solve a wide range of desktop software and hardware problems, including virus and Spyware removal.
  • Excellent time management, organizational skills and attention to details.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Available to periodically work after hours in support of testing and troubleshooting.
  • Timely and effective communication, both verbal and written.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and resolve computer problems.
  • Deploy new computer equipment.
  • Provide orientation and guidance to users on new ISD software.
  • Repair laptop and desktop computers.
  • Maintain records of repairs and work in the Help Desk system.
  • Install and configure appropriate software and functions according to specifications.
  • Effectively manage system documentation for disaster recovery purposes.
  • Travel to schools/programs throughout the region.
  • Maintain data confidentiality and FERPA compliance.
  • Communicate with Kent ISD and constituent district staff.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and vendors to achieve department and project outcomes.
  • Manage multiple assignments with competing priorities while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Commit to quality customer service for internal and external customers.
  • Adhere to cybersecurity safeguards and protocols.
  • Maintain regular attendance.
  • Adhere to departmental processes, Board policies.
