Job summary

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools is seeking an Exceptional Children Teacher Assistant to support EC students under teacher supervision. The role focuses on assisting with instruction, implementing IEP goals, and ensuring safe, productive classroom activities.

The position is a full-time, 9-month assignment with 40 hours per week, based in Charlotte, NC. Candidates should have or be pursuing related education and experience in special education settings. Travel to district buildings may be required.

Qualifications

• Associate's degree or higher required or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Two years of higher education credits (48+ hours) acceptable.
• Completion of WorkKeys and 96 hours of in-service training preferred.
• Completion of NC Department of Labor Teacher Assistant Apprenticeship Program preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist EC students individually or in small groups to reinforce learning concepts.
• Supervise students in classrooms, halls, cafeterias, and gymnasiums.
• Support teachers with instructional activities and materials preparation.
• Assist with attendance procedures, record keeping, and space organization.
• Provide physical assistance and supervision during activities and mobility tasks.
• Participate in professional development and other meetings.
