Job summary

Soap Creek Resources seeks a hands-on Embedded OS Engineer to own the Ubuntu-based Linux firmware stack on our MK2 drone platform (Qualcomm QRB5165). You will build, secure, and ship the OS through automated CI/CD pipelines, working with Yocto, BitBake, and headless hardware.

You will navigate low-level OS internals, optimize builds, and harden the system while removing attack surfaces. This role demands strong scripting, kernel familiarity, and proactive reliability improvements on ARM64

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience with Yocto/BitBake and embedded Linux.
• Strong background in Linux firmware, drivers, and boot sequences.
• Proven ability to build, test, and harden OS images for headless devices.

Responsibilities

• Own and maintain Yocto-based firmware stacks for drone platforms.
• Write/patch .bb and .bbappend recipes; manage upstream BSP pinning.
• Debug BitBake pipelines and optimize build times (BB_NUMBER_THREADS, PARALLEL_MAKE).
• Configure rootfs post-processing and OS hardening (apt patches, services).
• Develop Jenkins pipelines for concurrent builds and artifact management.
• Manage package inclusion/exclusion and inter-recipe dependencies.
• Configure system services, timers, and network/USB logging for headless devices.
• Support reliability, performance tuning, and fleet monitoring integrations.
