Job summary

FedEx Freight, Inc. is hiring for a tractor-trailer operator in Portland, ME. The role involves operating tractor-trailer combinations, including doubles/straight trucks, and performing dock tasks and forklift duties. CDL-A or CLP is required with a clean MVR and DOT compliance.

You will conduct safety inspections, secure freight, and manage documentation. Expect varied shifts, hazard awareness, and interactions with Dispatch and customers. Competitive hourly pay and benefits offered.

Qualifications

• Must possess a Class A CDL or a commercial learner permit (CLP) before entering job classification.
• Must have an acceptable Motor Vehicle Record based on hiring standards.
• Must meet DOT regulatory requirements under 49 CFR Part 391.
• Ability to count and perform basic math, with or without a calculator.
• Basic written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to hook up and break down sets of trailers with substantial lifting.
• Ability to lift/carry up to 100 pounds multiple times per day.

Responsibilities

• Operate tractor-trailer, including doubles/straight trucks.
• Perform pre/post/inter-trip safety inspections on equipment.
• Hook/unhook trailers and converter dollies.
• Handle freight with motorized/manual equipment (forklift, pallet jack, hand truck).
• Secure freight inside trailers with pallets/straps/rope.
• Recoup/repair damaged freight as needed.
• Complete required documentation and reports.
• Communicate with Dispatch on delays, arrivals, equipment issues.
• Demonstrate internal/external customer service.
• Communicate with customers to determine pick-up/delivery needs.
• Ask customers for additional business and provide leads to sales.
• May perform road driver or freight handler duties as needed.
