Job summary

FedEx Freight, Inc. is seeking a driver who will operate tractor-trailer combinations and perform non-driving duties such as forklift operation and dock work.

Starting pay is $25.64 per hour, with responsibilities including pre-trip/post-trip inspections, loading/unloading freight, and coordinating with dispatch on deliveries. The role requires a Class A CDL or CLP, acceptable MVR, and DOT regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

• Must possess a class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or a commercial learning permit (CLP).
• Must have acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) based on hiring standards.
• Must meet DOT regulatory requirements under section 391 of the FMC regulations.
• Ability to count and perform basic math, with or without a calculator.
• Basic written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to lift up to 100 pounds several times a day.
• Ability to sit for extended periods of time, bend, twist, squat, climb in and out of truck.
• Ability to follow instructions and complete required training.
• Ability to work independently and/or as a team member.

Responsibilities

• Operate tractor-trailer including doubles and straight trucks.
• Perform pre-trip, post-trip, and inter-trip safety inspections on equipment.
• Hook/unhook trailers and converter dollies to/from a tractor and/or trailer.
• Perform freight handling using forklift, pallet jack, and hand truck.
• Secure freight inside trailers using pallets, straps, and rope.
• Recoup/repair damaged freight when necessary.
• Verify and complete required documentation and reports.
• Collect checks for freight charges and maintain related documentation.
• Comply with hazmat regulations and company procedures, and confirm placarding matches hazmat shipments.
• Communicate with Dispatch regarding delays, arrivals, equipment problems, etc.
• Demonstrate internal and external customer service.
• Communicate with customers to determine pick-up or delivery needs.
• Ask customers for additional business, and provide leads to sales.
• Where necessary, perform duties of a road driver or freight handler.
• Chain vehicle tires, as required.
• Comply with laws/regulations and company policies.
• Perform other duties as required.
