Job summary

South Bend Medical Foundation (SBMF) is seeking a welcoming and compassionate Donor Care Specialist I to support donors at fixed donor centers. This role combines strong technical skills with excellent customer service and building positive relationships with donors.

The Donor Care Specialist I performs donor scheduling, registration, screening, blood collection, quality control, and recordkeeping. This position also helps recruit and schedule donors and may support mobile blood drives as

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Phlebotomy education, training, or experience preferred.
• Strong typing and data-entry skills.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and donor-service skills.
• Ability to recruit and schedule donors in a professional and engaging manner.
• Ability to maintain donor confidentiality.
• Valid driver’s license required.
• Ability to use a personal vehicle when necessary.
• CPR certification required.
• Ability to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.

Responsibilities

• Schedule, register, screen, and collect blood from donors in accordance with FDA and AABB guidelines.
• Enter donor information into the computer system and accurately obtain and document vital signs.
• Complete required screening and collection documentation and obtain required signatures.
• Maintain complete, accurate, and confidential donor records.
• Recognize and document adverse donor reactions and provide appropriate donor care and follow-up.
• Perform required quality-control procedures and document corrective actions when applicable.
• Answer telephone calls, greet donors and visitors, and route calls and messages appropriately.
• Actively recruit and schedule donors in support of blood collection needs.
• Maintain department supplies, equipment, instruments, and a clean work environment.
• Complete clerical responsibilities as assigned.
• Establish and maintain competency in all assigned duties.
• Maintain a professional appearance and provide courteous, respectful service.
• Support mobile blood drives when assigned.
