Job summary

BHcare in Connecticut is seeking a Domestic Violence Shelter Advocate for per diem shifts in New Haven. The role supports clients in a 24/7 shelter, with outreach to community resources and collaboration with partners.

The position requires a 4-year degree or equivalent experience and offers a $20.00 per hour wage plus benefits as eligible. Onsite essential staff status means reporting during inclement weather and emergencies.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree preferred; alternative experience may be considered.
• Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
• Two years of advocacy/direct service with DV survivors preferred.
• Crisis intervention and counseling skills preferred.
• Strong written communication and interpersonal skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft 365 and electronic records system EmpowerDB.

Responsibilities

• Develop service plans and connect clients with community resources.
• Collaborate with community partners to support client needs.
• Facilitate support groups and educational activities.
• Maintain a safe and welcoming shelter environment.
• Assist with household operations and transportation needs.
• Complete documentation accurately and timely.
