Job summary

Ascendco seeks an Education Specialist (Content Systems) to own the documentation platform and content standards for scalable product documentation. You’ll write, organize, and maintain reference materials, ensure accuracy as the product evolves, and drive a publishing process that scales with the growing content library.

You’ll work with Mintlify, collaborate with Development and QA on releases, and coordinate with Support to close documentation gaps.

Qualifications

• 2 to 5 years of experience in technical writing, software documentation, product content, knowledge management, or a related field.
• Demonstrated experience owning or leading a software documentation set or content library, including keeping it current as the product changed.
• Strong writing and editing skills, able to make technical information clear, concise, and usable.
• Experience with a documentation platform such as Mintlify, Docusaurus, Zendesk, Confluence, or a similar system.
• Strong technical aptitude, able to quickly learn software functionality, navigate complex systems, and independently explore tools with minimal direction.
• Comfortable working from engineering tickets, release notes, PRDs, QA findings, product demonstrations, and SME interviews.
• Comfortable asking engineers, QA, Support, and other SMEs the questions needed to understand how software actually behaves.
• Strong attention to terminology, consistency, structure, and detail.
• High self-direction, able to identify the next step, find the right source of information, and move work forward without weekly scaffolding.
• Strong ownership and judgment, with the ability to work within an agreed process and communicate clearly when priorities need to shift.
• Experience owning or administering Mintlify.
• Experience documenting a SaaS or workflow-based software product.
• Familiarity with Git-based or docs-as-code workflows.
• Experience building release or patch documentation processes with Development and QA.

Responsibilities

• Write, organize, and maintain reference documentation explaining how our products work by module, feature, and workflow.
• Create tip sheets, job aids, and quick-reference materials based on recurring user needs.
• Develop content from tickets, release notes, PRDs and other developer-oriented documentation, product changes, product exploration, and SME interviews without being provided with finished source material.
• Turn recurring Support questions into documentation and help guide priority within the content roadmap.
• Keep existing content current as functionality, terminology, and user needs change.
• Ask the questions and explore the product yourself to understand how functionality actually behaves before documenting it.
• Own Mintlify as Ascendco’s primary documentation platform, including structure, organization, publishing conventions, and ongoing maintenance.
• Drive the documentation-platform migration, bringing existing materials into a clean, consistent, and maintainable structure.
• Own and enforce content standards, templates, terminology, and information architecture so documentation stays consistent regardless of who provides the source information.
• Build and maintain a repeatable review and publishing process that will scale as the documentation library grows.
• Work directly with Development and QA to understand upcoming product changes and determine what users need to know.
• Publish release and patch documentation on the development cadence.
• Translate engineering tickets and QA findings into user-facing language appropriate for the intended audience.
• Build and maintain a repeatable release-content workflow that makes documentation part of the development process.
• Produce and publish educational videos in Synthesia, using AI avatars, voiceovers, and screen recordings of Ascendco software from scripts and learning objectives developed by the Education team.
• Own video production and publishing standards so recorded content remains consistent, maintainable, and easy to find.
• Partner with the Education Specialist (Learning & Competency) so videos and reference documentation support the intended learning objective without duplicating content unnecessarily.
