Job summary

Ascendco Health seeks a Content Systems Education Specialist to own the systems, standards, and day-to-day work behind our product documentation. You will write and maintain reference content, keep it accurate as our software changes, and build a publishing process that scales with our product.

This role focuses on content creation and content-system ownership, with collaboration across Development, QA, Support, and Platform Enablement.

Qualifications

• 2 to 5 years of experience in technical writing, software documentation, product content, knowledge management, or a related field.
• Experience owning or leading a software documentation set or content library with current products.
• Strong writing and editing skills, able to make technical information clear and usable.
• Experience with Mintlify, Docusaurus, Zendesk, Confluence or similar documentation platforms.
• Ability to quickly learn software functionality, navigate complex systems, and explore tools independently.
• Good attention to terminology, consistency, structure, and detail.
• High self-direction and strong ownership to drive documentation work with minimal supervision.

We're looking for a Content Systems Education Specialist to own the systems, standards, and day-to-day work behind Ascendco's product documentation. You'll write and maintain reference content, keep it accurate as our software changes, and build a publishing process that continues to scale along with our product and content library.

This role is primarily content creation and content-system ownership. Education owns reusable documentation and content standards that allow our field teams to deliver consistent training to clients. Routine client training on established functionality is owned by Platform Enablement.

You'll work day to day in Mintlify, partner directly with Development and QA on release and patch content, and work with Support and Platform Enablement to identify documentation gaps. This role is ideal for a self-directed technical writer who likes making complex software understandable and cares about the system behind the content as much as the words on the page.

Responsibilities

Product Documentation

• Write, organize, and maintain reference documentation explaining how our products work by module, feature, and workflow.
• Create tip sheets, job aids, and quick-reference materials based on recurring user needs.
• Develop content from tickets, release notes, PRDs and other developer-oriented documentation, product changes, product exploration, and SME interviews without being provided with finished source material.
• Turn recurring Support questions into documentation and help guide priority within the content roadmap.
• Keep existing content current as functionality, terminology, and user needs change.
• Ask the questions and explore the product yourself to understand how functionality actually behaves before documenting it.

Documentation Systems & Publishing

• Own Mintlify as Ascendco's primary documentation platform, including structure, organization, publishing conventions, and ongoing maintenance.
• Drive the documentation-platform migration, bringing existing materials into a clean, consistent, and maintainable structure.
• Own and enforce content standards, templates, terminology, and information architecture so documentation stays consistent regardless of who provides the source information.
• Build and maintain a repeatable review and publishing process that will scale as the documentation library grows.

Release & Patch Documentation

• Work directly with Development and QA to understand upcoming product changes and determine what users need to know.
• Publish release and patch documentation on the development cadence.
• Translate engineering tickets and QA findings into user-facing language appropriate for the intended audience.
• Build and maintain a repeatable release-content workflow that makes documentation part of the development process.

Video & Media Publishing

• Produce and publish educational videos in Synthesia, using AI avatars, voiceovers, and screen recordings of Ascendco software from scripts and learning objectives developed by the Education team.
• Own video production and publishing standards so recorded content remains consistent, maintainable, and easy to find.
• Partner with the Education Specialist, Learning & Competency so videos and reference documentation support the intended learning objective without duplicating content unnecessarily.

Requirements

Must-Haves

• 2 to 5 years of experience in technical writing, software documentation, product content, knowledge management, or a related field.
• Demonstrated experience owning or materially leading a software documentation set or content library, including keeping it current as the product changed.
• Strong writing and editing skills, able to make technical information clear, concise, and usable.
• Experience with a documentation platform such as Mintlify, Docusaurus, Zendesk, Confluence, or a similar system.
• Strong technical aptitude, able to quickly learn software functionality, navigate complex systems, and independently explore tools with minimal direction.
• Comfortable working from engineering tickets, release notes, PRDs, QA findings, product demonstrations, and SME interviews.
• Comfortable asking engineers, QA, Support, and other SMEs the questions needed to understand how software actually behaves.
• Strong attention to terminology, consistency, structure, and detail.
• High self-direction, able to identify the next step, find the right source of information, and move work forward without weekly scaffolding.
• Strong ownership and judgment, with the ability to work within an agreed process and communicate clearly when priorities need to shift.

Nice-to-Haves

• Experience owning or administering Mintlify.
• Experience documenting a SaaS or workflow-based software product.
• Familiarity with Git-based or docs-as-code workflows.
• Experience building release or patch documentation processes with Development and QA.

Ascendco operates in a collaborative hybrid environment where ownership and continuous improvement matter. You'll be trusted with a meaningful part of how our products scale: making sure the knowledge around them is as dependable as the software itself.

You'll work most closely with Development and QA, along with Support, Platform Enablement, Client Success, and Marketing. Travel is expected to be less than 10%.

This role owns more than individual documents. You'll help establish the standards and processes that determine how reusable product knowledge gets created, reviewed, published, and maintained.

The result should be a content system people trust, one that helps Ascenders and surgical teams find the right answer and keep moving without needing another person in the room.
