Job summary

Old Dominion Freight Line is seeking a Dock Supervisor to lead daily freight operations, ensure safety and efficiency, and drive performance across the shift. You will supervise dock staff, coordinate loading/unloading, and collaborate with the Operations leadership to meet service and safety standards.

The role requires strong supervisory experience, knowledge of OSHA and DOT regulations, and proficiency with AS400/DYMS/BLU systems. This is a full-time on-site position within the OD network.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent; some college preferred.
• Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• 2 years working operations experience preferably in the transportation industry.
• Supervisory experience preferred.
• Working knowledge of AS400, Microsoft Office, DYMS and BLU systems.
• Knowledge of general DOT regulations.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and evaluate the safety of each employee on a daily basis
• Monitor and evaluate the safe and efficient loading and unloading process of freight throughout the shift
• Monitors, evaluates, and teaches employees safe lifting techniques
• Monitor and maintain housekeeping within the shift to ensure safety and productivity
• Manages, assigns and supervises dock employees to ensure proper utilization
• Manages all dock work schedules and time off requests
• Collaborates with Operations Manager/Assistant SVC Manager to meet business objectives
• Provides analyses and ideas for improvement of operations
• Delivers feedback to employees on ROI, MPH, stops per hour, and productivity; handles disciplinary actions
• Ensures compliance with local/state/federal OSHA and DOT regulations
• Inspects trailers for proper loading/unloading and cleanliness
• Operates AS400, BLU, and other freight monitoring systems
• Completes forklift training and uses forklift as needed
• Conducts daily shift meetings
• Makes quick decisions based on volume and communicates schedule
• Ensures tools and equipment are safe and compliant
• Works shifts as needed based on scheduling
• Follows company and government regulations
