Job summary

Forward Air Corp. in Compton, CA is seeking a qualified Forklift Operator to safely load, unload, and move freight in a multimodal terminal. You will operate sit-down/stand-up forklifts and other MHE, document cargo movements, and support on-dock workflows.

This role requires a valid forklift certification and 3+ years of dock or warehouse experience, with strong attention to safety, accuracy, and communication in English. The schedule may include nights, weekends, and overtime.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED preferred but not required.
• Valid forklift certification/licensure (or ability to obtain before operating equipment) required.
• 3+ years of dock or warehouse experience required.
• Ability to communicate effectively in English, verbally and in writing.
• Recognize numbers, labels, barcodes, and freight markings accurately; perform basic arithmetic.
• Willingness to learn basic computer systems and handheld scanners.
• Ability to operate MHE such as forklifts, pallet jacks, and other equipment with training.
• Regular attendance and reliability required.

Responsibilities

• Load and unload freight using forklifts and MHE.
• Move, stage, sort, and position freight between dock doors and designated areas.
• Pick, pack, and prepare items for shipping.
• Assist drivers with loading and unloading following safety procedures.
• Label, scan, and track freight using handheld devices.
• Identify damaged freight and report issues to supervision.
• Maintain a clean, safe dock environment and observe PPE standards.
• Learn equipment operation and safety procedures on developing roles.
• Support dock productivity and overall operational goals.
• Work nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed.
