Job summary

Forward Air Corp. is seeking a Forklift Operator to safely load, unload, stage, and move freight within a multimodal terminal or warehouse environment. You will document cargo movements, assist with dock operations, and support drivers and teammates on the floor.

The role requires 3+ years of dock or warehouse experience, a valid forklift certification, and strong English communication. Candidates must be able to work varied shifts and perform physical tasks in a non-climate-controlled setting.

Qualifications

• Education: High School Diploma or GED preferred but not required.
• Certification: Valid forklift certification/licensure (or ability to obtain before operating equipment).
• Experience: 3+ years of dock or warehouse experience required.
• Communication: Ability to communicate effectively in English, verbally and in writing.
• Basic math: Ability to recognize numbers, barcodes and freight markings and perform basic arithmetic.
• Technology: Willingness to learn basic computer systems and handheld scanners.
• Equipment: Ability to safely operate MHE such as forklifts and pallet jacks (with training).
• Attendance: Regular and predictable attendance required.
• Physical: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs with assistance up to 75 lbs and perform extended standing/walking.

Responsibilities

• Move, stage, sort, and position freight between dock doors and warehouse areas.
• Pick, pack, and prepare items for shipping.
• Assist drivers with loading/unloading following safety procedures.
• Label, scan, and track freight with handheld devices and systems.
• Identify damaged freight and report safety or equipment issues.
• Maintain a clean, safe, organized dock environment.
• Learn equipment operation and safety procedures on the floor.
• Support dock productivity and workflow efficiency.
• Work nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed.
• Mentor and train other Material Handlers as assigned.
