IDEAL CANDIDATE: Must have Skilled Nursing supervisory experience.

Manages the facility nursing program in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act, applicable State and Federal regulations, and policies and procedures.

Education:

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing, BSN preferred.

Licenses/Certification:

  • Valid RN license in the state employed.
  • Valid CPR certification.

Experience:

  • Three years of experience as a Director of Nursing, Assistant Director of Nursing, or equivalent supervisory nursing experience.

Job Functions:

  • Rounds on unit at least once daily.
  • Performs general management functions such as hiring, disciplining, and evaluating employees.
  • Interview and hire new nursing staff.
  • Plans and facilitates meetings and committees to address resident care issues.
  • Reviews time sheets for accuracy before payroll.
  • Manages the Nursing Department aiming for the highest quality of care.
  • Develops and manages systems to assure clinical competencies.
  • Participates in developing, implementing, and evaluating programs for recruitment, retention, development, and continuing education of nursing staff.
  • Identifies training needs.
  • Initiates studies to evaluate effectiveness of nursing services regarding objectives and costs.
  • Develops and manages nurse-on-call system.
  • Develops the department budget, monitors expenses, and stays within budget.
  • Investigates and resolves residents, family, and employee concerns.
  • Ensures timely completion of annual competency evaluations and performance reviews.
  • Participates in Employee Recognition Program.
  • Proactively addresses survey and standards of care issues.
  • Develops and manages staffing scheduler system.
  • Plans and guides professional development of nursing staff.
  • Ensures adequate nursing staff based on facility/census requirements.
  • Collects data to compile reports timely and meet deadlines.
  • Participates in facility "Performance Improvement Program."
  • Ensures adherence to clinical protocols and nursing policies and procedures.
  • Performs other tasks as assigned.
  • Ensures pharmacy, dietary, and physician consults are followed timely.
  • Assumes full responsibilities for the Center in the absence of the Administrator.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Skilled in directing and motivating the workforce.
  • Effective communication with residents, families, and organization levels.
  • Decisive and quick reaction in emergencies.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize tasks.
  • Knowledge of training techniques for clinical staff.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Knowledge of Nurse Practice Act, regulations, policies, and procedures regarding nursing standards and care delivery.
