IDEAL CANDIDATE: Must have Skilled Nursing supervisory experience.
Manages the facility nursing program in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act, applicable State and Federal regulations, and policies and procedures.
Education:
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing, BSN preferred.
Licenses/Certification:
- Valid RN license in the state employed.
- Valid CPR certification.
Experience:
- Three years of experience as a Director of Nursing, Assistant Director of Nursing, or equivalent supervisory nursing experience.
Job Functions:
- Rounds on unit at least once daily.
- Performs general management functions such as hiring, disciplining, and evaluating employees.
- Interview and hire new nursing staff.
- Plans and facilitates meetings and committees to address resident care issues.
- Reviews time sheets for accuracy before payroll.
- Manages the Nursing Department aiming for the highest quality of care.
- Develops and manages systems to assure clinical competencies.
- Participates in developing, implementing, and evaluating programs for recruitment, retention, development, and continuing education of nursing staff.
- Identifies training needs.
- Initiates studies to evaluate effectiveness of nursing services regarding objectives and costs.
- Develops and manages nurse-on-call system.
- Develops the department budget, monitors expenses, and stays within budget.
- Investigates and resolves residents, family, and employee concerns.
- Ensures timely completion of annual competency evaluations and performance reviews.
- Participates in Employee Recognition Program.
- Proactively addresses survey and standards of care issues.
- Develops and manages staffing scheduler system.
- Plans and guides professional development of nursing staff.
- Ensures adequate nursing staff based on facility/census requirements.
- Collects data to compile reports timely and meet deadlines.
- Participates in facility "Performance Improvement Program."
- Ensures adherence to clinical protocols and nursing policies and procedures.
- Performs other tasks as assigned.
- Ensures pharmacy, dietary, and physician consults are followed timely.
- Assumes full responsibilities for the Center in the absence of the Administrator.

- Skilled in directing and motivating the workforce.
- Effective communication with residents, families, and organization levels.
- Decisive and quick reaction in emergencies.
- Ability to organize and prioritize tasks.
- Knowledge of training techniques for clinical staff.
- Maintain confidentiality.
- Knowledge of Nurse Practice Act, regulations, policies, and procedures regarding nursing standards and care delivery.
