Compass seeks an experienced Director of Engineering to lead consumer web and mobile experiences across brand websites and apps. You will build and grow managers, shape the organization, and align with executive leadership on strategy and investment.

You will guide a multi-brand, multi-market platform, optimize performance, and sponsor AI-driven innovations while maintaining high standards for reliability and speed. This role reports to the VP of Software Engineering.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of engineering leadership, including 6+ years leading managers.
• 12+ years in software engineering for consumer products used by millions.
• Deep consumer engineering roots with modern web/mobile architecture.
• Experience building shared platforms for multiple brands or markets.
• Ability translate technical strategy into business outcomes for executives.

Responsibilities

• Set the multi-year engineering vision for brands' websites and apps with leadership.
• Drive first-click optimization and data-driven design across experiences.
• Scale platform across nine brands and 120 countries without reworking basics.
• Set org-wide standards for quality, reliability, and performance.
• Manage budgets, vendors, and delivery partners with discipline.
• Define evaluation of emerging tech including AI in consumer experiences.
• Hire and develop managers and senior engineers; plan succession.
• Lead through influence with Product, Design, Marketing, and peers.
