Job summary

Compass is seeking a Director of Engineering to lead multi-brand consumer websites and apps. You’ll guide engineering for our brands’ consumer experiences, reporting to the VP of Software Engineering and building a distributed organization across the U.S.

and abroad. You’ll partner with executive leadership to set strategy, invest wisely in cloud and tools, and drive growth in a dynamic real estate tech platform.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of engineering leadership, including 6+ years leading managers.
• Proven track record building distributed orgs that deliver without you in the room.
• Deep consumer engineering roots with web/mobile architecture for millions.

Responsibilities

• Own the consumer experience technical strategy for brands' websites and apps.
• Win the first click by designing pages around user intents and converting visits to agent connections.
• Scale across nine brands and 120 countries with shared platforms without rebuilding basics.
• Set org-wide standards for quality, reliability, and performance and ensure accountability.
• Manage the org's spend on cloud, vendors, contractors, tech debt, and KTLO with disciplined decisions.
• Define how emerging tech and AI are evaluated and sponsored in consumer experiences.
• Build and develop managers and engineers, plan succession, foster ownership and trust.
• Lead through influence across Product, Design, Marketing, and engineering teams.
