Business Development Director / Manager / Sr Director – Small Molecules, Drug Product

Location: Remote (USA-based, ideally near a key pharma hub)

Industry: Pharmaceutical CDMO - Small Molecules, Drug Product

We’re working with a rapidly growing, specialty CDMO that is investing heavily in its site, people, and commercial capabilities. With a strong scientific foundation and a focus on enabling formulation technologies, this business partners with biotech and pharmaceutical companies to solve complex solubility and bioavailability challenges across preclinical to commercial stages.

Their site is in expansion mode — preparing for commercial manufacturing, hiring top-tier talent, and winning new projects from a mix of innovative biotech clients and established pharma companies.

To support continued growth, they’re hiring experienced Business Development Directors or Managers to lead client acquisition and relationship management across key U.S. territories (Northeast, West Coast, RTP, Midwest, or similar).

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify and convert new business opportunities for development and GMP manufacturing services
  • Build and manage relationships with biotech and pharma clients, from initial contact through to contract negotiation
  • Represent the company at trade shows, conferences, and industry events
  • Lead bid/proposal development and support internal teams with technical scoping
  • Contribute to strategic growth initiatives and client targeting

Requirements

  • A proven track record in business development or sales within a CDMO, CRO, or pharma services environment
  • Deep understanding of the drug development lifecycle, ideally with experience in formulation or drug product manufacturing
  • Minimum of 3 years in a client-facing commercial role
  • Strong presentation, communication, and negotiation skills
  • Degree in a relevant scientific or business field (e.g. Chemistry, Pharmaceutics, Biology, Engineering, or similar)
  • Self-starter mentality with the ability to work independently and drive results
  • Remote role with national territory responsibility
  • 30-40% travel expected
