Job summary

Chime is seeking a Director of Engineering for the AI & App Experience (AAX) organization to shape multi-quarter strategies and lead a bench of top engineering leaders building Jade and the AI platform infrastructure.

You will hire, mentor, and align teams with product, design, data science, and risk to drive AI-native, consumer-facing features while upholding strong architectural standards and scalable delivery across the member experience.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of software engineering experience, including 5+ years managing managers or leading multi-team engineering organizations.
• Experience building and scaling AI/LLM-powered consumer products with technical depth to guide investments.
• Experience hiring, developing, and retaining engineering leaders and building leadership pipelines.
• Strong fundamentals across React Native, Python or Ruby on Rails, GraphQL, distributed systems.
• Ability translating strategy into multi-quarter engineering plans and adapting org design as scale evolves.
• Excellent executive communication connecting org strategy to business outcomes with senior partners.
• Experience partnering with Product, Design, Data Science, and Risk/Compliance in fintech context preferred.
• AI-native fluency and drive to foster AI-native ways of working across teams.

Responsibilities

• Own multi-quarter strategy for AAX engineering and translate priorities into roadmap plans.
• Build, lead, and hire a leadership bench; shape a culture of builders.
• Set technical direction and drive architectural alignment across AI experiences, platform, app journey, and design system.
• Drive AI-native engineering practices; ship safe, scalable LLM-powered features.
• Influence product direction by partnering with Product, Design, Data Science, and Risk leadership.
• Represent AAX in cross-functional and executive forums aligning work with company strategy.
• Foster high performance, strong talent, and career development across teams.
• Ensure robust operations: on-call, monitoring, and incident response for all services.
