Job summary

Farmers in the United States is seeking a Director, Technical Underwriting - Casualty to serve as the senior technical authority for commercial casualty underwriting. You will lead strategy, governance, referral frameworks, and portfolio management while shaping underwriting capabilities.

This newly created role emphasizes technical excellence, profitability, and talent development, with collaboration across underwriting, actuarial, product, pricing/actuarial, IT, data/analytics, and operations

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in mathematics, business or finance is required.
• CPCU or CIC designation is preferred.
• Ten years of commercial casualty underwriting experience is required.
• Five years of leadership experience is required.

Responsibilities

• Lead authority management strategy and underwriting governance framework.
• Define and enforce how underwriting decisions are made for consistency with strategy and risk appetite.
• Exercise elevated underwriting authority on complex or high-exposure risks.
• Own underwriting performance and profitability for assigned lines of business, including loss/combined ratio, growth and retention.
• Monitor performance and take action to achieve financial objectives.
• Own underwriting quality program and control environment, including audits and compliance frameworks.
• Translate strategy into technical guidelines, authority structures and operational rules.
• Ensure consistent execution across lines of business with clear standards and governance.
• Collaborate with actuarial and data analytics to develop models and decision-support tools.
• Identify emerging risks and governance processes; lead cross-functional alignment.
