Job summary

The Hanover Insurance Group is seeking a Claims Technical Director Casualty to advance technical excellence across high-exposure, litigated casualty claims. This senior role coaches core liability handlers, guides coverage analysis, and partners with defense counsel to optimize outcomes.

Ideal candidates have 10+ years in casualty claims, a strong track record in complex cases, and a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent with credentials such as CPCU or JD.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of casualty claims experience, including complex, high-severity, and litigated liability claims.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required; CPCU, AIC, SCLA, JD, or similar credentials a plus.
• Demonstrated expertise in coverage analysis, investigation strategy, litigation management, and negotiation with high severity exposures.
• Strategic decision-making with a track record of quality, accurate reserving, and outcome optimization.
• Ability to influence without authority; strong communicator and collaborator.

Responsibilities

• Act as a senior technical resource for complex casualty claims (auto bodily injury, general liability, premises liability, products liability, high-exposure lawsuits).
• Coach core liability claim handlers on complex claims to mitigate exposure and guide strategy.
• Conduct detailed reviews of claim files for thorough investigation, liability assessment, and litigation planning.
• Provide guidance on coverage analysis, damages evaluation, and exposure assessment to improve claim decisions.
• Support lifecycle management of complex claims from investigation through resolution.
