Job summary

Smithfield Foods is seeking a skilled diesel mechanic to perform day-to-day maintenance and repairs on company-owned light, medium, and heavy vehicles and trailers. You will inspect and repair mechanical failures, replace parts, and service systems including electrical, fuel, braking, HVAC, and hydraulics, ensuring reliability and cost efficiency.

The role requires broad knowledge of truck chassis systems, ability to diagnose errors, and a commitment to safety.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED and 1+ years of related experience in industrial mechanical maintenance or food manufacturing, or 4 years' diesel mechanic experience.
• Vocational/Technical diploma or associate degree preferred.
• Advanced knowledge of vehicle electrical systems and diesel engines.
• Ability to run diagnostic tests on vehicles and maintain repair records.
• Proficiency with diesel diagnostic software and hand tools.

Responsibilities

• Performs repairs and maintenance in a productive, efficient and SAFE manner.
• Reports completion and next assignments to lead technician.
• Identifies additional repairs and lists required parts.
• Records time and parts used on provided forms.
• Follows safety and environmental procedures and company policies.
• Diagnoses problems and tests repairs; assists/trains others as needed.
• Performs preventive maintenance and DOT inspections.
