Job summary

Smithfield Foods is seeking a maintenance technician to perform day-to-day repair and preventive maintenance on our fleet of company vehicles and trailers. You will review DVIRs and shop orders, diagnose mechanical issues, and perform repairs on a range of systems including electrical, fuel, steering, and braking.

You will also maintain parts and hand tools; ensure safety protocols are followed; and cooperate with the lead technician and colleagues.

Qualifications

Must have a high school diploma or GED and 1+ years in industrial mechanical maintenance or food manufacturing environment.
Technical diploma or associate degree from a technical maintenance or vocational school preferred.
Advanced knowledge of a vehicle's electrical system and diesel engine mechanisms.
Ability to run diagnostic tests on vehicles and maintain detailed records of serviced units.
Willing to work occasional weekends and be on call for emergencies.

Responsibilities

Performs repairs and maintenance on company vehicles and trailers safely and efficiently.
Reviews shop orders and DVIRs to plan work.
Diagnoses problems and tests repairs across mechanical systems.
Maintains tool inventory and records time and parts used on forms.
Provides guidance to less experienced mechanics as needed.
Complies with safety, EMS, and environmental policies.
