Job summary

The Salvation Army seeks a Special Events & Community Engagement Specialist to lead annual campaign management, secure major gifts, and coordinate donor relations in the Capital Area Command. This full-time role partners with the Western Division grants team and staff to meet fundraising goals.

Responsibilities include developing fundraising plans, managing media relations, expanding digital and social fundraising, coordinating events, and reporting on outcomes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree and 3–5 years nonprofit fundraising experience.
• CFRE credentials or similar are a plus.
• Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and communicate effectively.

Responsibilities

• Develop, coordinate, and implement a fundraising plan to meet budgeted goals for current and expanded operations.
• Manage media relations strategy with local media, including press releases and speaking opportunities.
• Oversee digital fundraising and social media efforts to raise funds and awareness.
• Coordinate direct mail campaigns and donor stewardship efforts.
• Prepare and submit regular fundraising reports and analyses.
• Work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as required.
