Job summary

Southland Industries is seeking a Preconstruction Project Engineer to lead the preconstruction process for design-build and design-assist projects in Texas. You will manage design and detailing schedules, monitor development progress, and oversee financial aspects of the design contract to deliver high-quality projects on time and within budget.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Construction Science, or equivalent technical training and related experience.
• 3+ years of practical engineering or construction management experience.
• Active EIT Certification preferred.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills.
• Excellent analytical and technical writing skills.
• Excellent verbal communication and presentation skills.
• Ability to work autonomously and in a team environment while adhering to project deadlines.
• Advanced computer proficiency, including MS Office and familiarity with Autodesk Products and Revit.
• Exposure to calculations and design.
• Exposure to Detailing/VDC requirements.
• Understanding of building codes and standards.
• Exposure to Project Life Cycle.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for the preconstruction process of design-build and design-assist projects.
• Manages project design and detailing schedule, monitors design development and detailing progress, and manages the financial aspects of the design contract.
• Manages input and output of accurate project data in various systems.
• Develops and manages design schedules; interfaces with disciplines, contractors, architects, and project team.
• Assists in contract review for contracts with customers and subconsultants.
• Coordinates with engineering, detailing, and VDC teams for construction document development.
• Assists in determining efficient methods for complex engineering problems.
• Performs plan and specification analysis to interpret construction documents.
• Manages the design QA/QC process.
• Provides scoping for cost impact studies or design optimizations; redline exposure via project methods.
• Conducts on-site field surveys to collect and deliver data.
• Creates RFIs and submittals for detailing.
