Job summary

Getz Fire Equipment Company seeks a Fire Alarm and Special Hazards Design Manager in Peoria. Lead a small design team, oversee project scope, and produce construction drawings using AutoCAD. Ensure NFPA/IBC compliance and maintain thorough documentation for permits and records.

Ideal candidates have 5–10 years in fire alarm design, NICET Level 3 (Level 4 preferred), and a related engineering/design college degree. Strong communication and teamwork are essential for success.

Qualifications

  • NICET Level 3 in fire alarm or related field required; Level 4 preferred.
  • College degree in engineering, construction, or design preferred.
  • Proficient in 2D AutoCAD for construction drawings.
  • Strong written and verbal communication; team leadership ability.
  • Fundamental knowledge of low voltage wiring and life safety codes.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee design and scope of each project during design stage.
  • Manage a team of designers and coordinate with stakeholders.
  • Create fire alarm and special hazards drawings in AutoCAD.
  • Compile documentation, permits, records, and as-builts.
  • Ensure designs comply with NFPA, IBC, AHJ, and manufacturer specs.

Our goal to distinguish ourselves with quality and ethics has led to steady, organic growth, and with your help we plan to continue this trend for many years to come.ABOUT THE ROLEBy joining the Engineered Systems Sales and Installation department of GFE, you would work alongside a small group of committed individuals with hundreds of years of cumulative industry experience. This position oversees the design and scope process for each project during its design stage while managing a team of designers. An eye for detail, strong organizational and communication skills, the ability to multi-task, and cooperative participation within a team will be crucial in this fast-paced and challenging position.WHAT YOU'LL DOOversee the design and scope process for each project during its design stageManage and oversee a team of designersOversee and create fire alarm and special hazards construction drawings using AutoCADCompile all accompanying documentation, permit applications, record keeping, and as-built drawingsAssess each design for compliance with applicable NFPA and IBC codes, local Authority Having Jurisdiction requirements, and manufacturer's specificationsProvide general support to sales estimators and project technicians within the departmentWHAT YOU'LL BRING5–10 years of experience in the design of fire alarm systems and/or special hazardsAt a minimum, NICET Level 3 certification in those fields, with Level 3 in fire alarm being the priority; NICET Level 4 in fire alarm is preferredPrevious working experience and proficiency in 2D drafting with AutoCAD (an absolute requirement)College education in a field related to engineering, construction, or design (preferred)Fundamental understanding of low voltage electrical wiring, fire alarm system operations, and life safety code requirementsClear written communication and coherent graphic representation skillsDemonstrated ability to work in a team environment and be a good leaderKnowledge of, or experience with, construction plan drawing and draftingBasic proficiency with Microsoft Office productsBENEFITS & PERKSGetz Fire invests in the people who keep our customers safe.
