Qualifications

• Medical or clerical experience required.
• Typing speed of 50 wpm and strong spelling, math and problem-solving skills.
• Filing, telephone handling, and data entry abilities.
• Ability to work independently and with others; communicate effectively with patients and staff.
• Preferred: medical terminology knowledge and ICD-9 coding familiarity.

Responsibilities

• Performs department patient reception and directs patients to the appropriate location.
• Obtains and verifies insurance and billing information for all types of insurance.
• Audits charts daily for completeness and accuracy; follows up as needed.
• Prepares paperwork used during patient care in a timely manner.
• Maintains accuracy of records and coordinates with staff and physicians.
• Trains and orients new clerical staff and communicates improvements to supervisor.
• Handles stress, makes decisions, and adheres to Sky Lakes Medical Center policies.
