Job description

A cover letter is required for consideration for this position and should be attached as the first page of your resume. The cover letter should address your specific interest in the position and outline skills and experience that directly relate to this position.

Job Responsibilities
  1. Assist in a wide variety of chairside procedures using the principles of four-handed dentistry in graduate orthodontics.
  2. Assist and provide guidance to the providers with oral examinations, charting, and operative procedures.
  3. Assist graduate orthodontic residents in the Craniofacial clinic one morning per week, treating a compromised and complex patient population.
  4. Stock and maintain cubicles, prepare instruments for sterilization.
  5. Prepare instruments and materials for use by the residents, enter patient data into the computer system.
  6. Expose and process radiographs.
  7. Assist in the training of dental students.
  8. Follow current infection control standards pertaining to OSHA and HIPAA guidelines.
  9. Perform additional clinic duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
  1. At least 2 years of dental experience.
  2. Knowledge of dental clinic practices and procedures.
  3. Must be CPR certified.
  4. Must hold a Radiography Certification (x-ray).
  5. Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to interact professionally with patients, faculty, residents, and staff at all times.
  6. Possess current knowledge of infection control standards pertaining to OSHA and HIPAA.
  7. Excellent communication skills and attendance record.
  8. Ability to multi-task and have attention to detail.
  9. Willingness to work as a team player for the delivery of excellent patient care.
Preferred Qualifications
  1. Experience working within a dental health care setting.
  2. Knowledge of orthodontic dental procedures.
  3. Experience with School of Dentistry policies and MiDent software.
  4. Certificate of completion from an accredited dental assisting program.
Work Schedule

Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the United Michigan Medicine Allied Professionals (UMMAP), which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours, and other terms and conditions of employment.
