Job description

The Dental Assistant-Clinical Expanded Function position is located at the Corporal Michael J Crescenz VA Medical Center in Philadelphia, PA. Dental Assistants at this level perform a higher scope, complexity, and variety of dental assisting duties, applying advanced clinical skills.

Duties

Dental Assistants at this level serve in expanded function roles, independently performing complex work in assigned specialties. They must maintain current DANB certification, which provides a list of permissible clinical expanded function duties specific to each state. The assistant assists general dentists and specialists in patient care and performs other clinical and clerical functions independently.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements:

• Citizenship: Must be a U.S. citizen. Non-citizens may be appointed if qualified candidates are unavailable.
• Experience and Education: Six months of relevant experience or successful completion of a 1-year CODA-accredited dental assistant program. Equivalent combinations are qualifying.
• Certification: Must meet radiologic procedure credentialing standards, including completing an accredited educational program and certification as a radiographer. DANB certification is highly desirable and required for positions above full performance level.
• English Language Proficiency: Proficient in spoken and written English.

Additional qualifications include the potential for grandfathering provisions and specific grade determinations for GS-7 level positions, requiring at least 1 year of experience at the previous grade level, demonstration of technical KSAs, and specific duties such as advanced imaging and complex clinical procedures.

Preferred Experience: Minimum of 5 years as an EFDA, current certification, comprehensive dental experience, and some experience with dental residents is preferred.

The full performance level for this vacancy is GS-7.
