Summary

The Dental Assistant-Clinical Expanded Function position is located at the Corporal Michael J Crescenz VA Medical Center in Philadelphia, PA. Dental Assistants at this level perform a broader scope, more complex, and diverse dental assisting duties, applying advanced clinical skills.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements:

• Citizenship: Must be a citizen of the United States. Non-citizens may be appointed if qualified candidates are unavailable, as per regulations.
• Experience and Education:
• Six months of experience demonstrating ability or familiarity with dental work, OR
• Successful completion of a 1-year accredited dental assistant program, OR
• Combination of experience and education that is equivalent.

Certification: Must meet radiologic procedure credentialing standards or have completed recognized training/examinations in dental radiology. DANB certification is highly desirable for positions above full performance level and required for higher roles.

Other Requirements: Proficiency in spoken and written English. May qualify via Grandfathering provisions if applicable.

Grade Determinations: For GS-7 level, candidates must have at least 1 year of experience at the previous grade, demonstrate specific technical knowledge, and perform advanced clinical duties such as diagnostic procedures, advanced imaging, and fabricating restorations. Preferred: 5+ years of experience as an EFDA, current certification, and experience with dental residents.

Duties

• Perform complex dental assisting duties independently, including assisting with various dental procedures, advanced imaging, and patient care.
• Maintain current DANB certification and perform permissible expanded functions as per state regulations.
• Assist general dentists and specialists, perform clinical and clerical tasks, and ensure infection control and patient confidentiality.
• Prepare and manage dental materials, impressions, and prostheses.
• Work schedule: Monday to Friday, 7:45 am to 4:15 pm.
