Summary

The Dental Assistant-Clinical Expanded Function position is located at the Corporal Michael J Crescenz VA Medical Center in Philadelphia, PA. Dental Assistants at this level perform a broader scope, more complex, and varied dental assisting duties, applying advanced clinical skills.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements:

1. Citizenship: Must be a citizen of the United States. Non-citizens may be appointed under specific conditions.
2. Experience and Education:
   1. Six months of experience demonstrating ability or familiarity with dental work, OR
   2. Successful completion of a 1-year dental assistant program accredited by CODA, OR
   3. Equivalent experience and education combinations qualify.
3. Certification: Must meet radiologic procedure standards as per Public Law 97-35, including completion of an accredited educational program and certification as a radiographer, or equivalent qualifications such as DANB certification, which is highly desirable and required for higher positions.
4. English Language Proficiency: Must be proficient in spoken and written English.
5. Additional Qualifications: May qualify under the Grandfathering Provision if applicable.
6. Grade Determinations: For GS-7 level, candidates must have at least 1 year of experience at the previous grade, demonstrating core competencies, and possess specific technical KSAs, including advanced imaging skills and experience with complex dental procedures.

Duties

Dental Assistants at this level perform complex, independent duties in expanded functions, assisting dentists and specialists in various procedures, maintaining certification, and ensuring infection control. Duties include preparing for procedures, performing diagnostic tests, managing patient care, and supporting dental treatments with advanced imaging and clinical skills.

Work Schedule

Monday to Friday, 7:45 am to 4:15 pm.
