Position Summary

Supports dental care delivery by preparing the treatment room for patients following prescribed procedures and protocols. Prepares patients for dental treatment by welcoming, comforting, seating, and draping them. Provides instrumentation by sterilizing and delivering instruments to the treatment area, positioning instruments for the dentist’s access, suctioning, and passing instruments. Assists in educating patients on oral hygiene, plaque control, and postoperative instructions.

Position Duties & Responsibilities

• Assisting the dentist during various treatment procedures
• Taking Digital Radiographs (via computer/sensors)
• Gathering patient medical history and measuring blood pressure and pulse
• Serving as an infection control officer, developing protocols, and sterilizing instruments per Joint Commission and OSHA standards
• Following Charles Drew Health Center’s HIPAA Privacy Practices
• Helping patients feel comfortable before, during, and after treatments
• Providing oral care instructions post-surgery or other procedures
• Teaching oral hygiene strategies under the dentist’s supervision
• Taking impressions of teeth for study models
• Performing office management tasks using computer systems
• Communicating with patients regarding scheduling, follow-ups, and billing
• Managing inventory and dental supplies with the Dental Office Administrator
• Supporting direct patient care across dental specialties, including pediatric dentistry and oral surgery
• Willingness to work at different locations and some evenings/weekends
• Other duties as assigned by senior staff

Position Requirements

• High School Diploma or Equivalency; Dental Assistant program preferred
• CPR & AED certification; certification in coronal polishing and radiology required or within 6 months of hire
• Proficiency in charting, data entry, basic computer skills, and customer service; 1-year dental assisting experience preferred
• English or Bilingual proficiency
• Availability for 30-40 hours/week, with flexibility for travel and extended hours
