Summary
The Dental Assistant is an integral member of the Pre-Doctoral Group Practice team at BUGSDM, providing direct support to dental students to ensure the delivery of high-quality patient care. This role requires strong clinical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to thrive in a dynamic, team-oriented environment.
Job Responsibilities
- The dental assistant demonstrates strong clinical skills by practicing four-handed dentistry, preparing operatory for required treatments, ensuring assigned operatories are cleaned and disinfected between each patient, setting up for the next patient, and preparing instrument cassettes for sterilization according to established protocols.
- Organizing and coordinating inventory of supplies to avoid shortages, restocking cabinets when indicated, and providing coverage during evening and Saturday clinic hours.
- Providing compassion, understanding, and empathy towards patients during treatment.
- Fostering excellent interpersonal skills, promoting teamwork among staff and faculty, and striving to make each phase of patient treatment a positive experience from initial appointment through completion of dental care.
Qualifications & Work Experience
- Prior experience working as a Dental Assistant in a dental practice or dental care environment is required.
- Strong understanding of dental terminology and procedures.
- Ability to review and explain treatment plans to patients.
- Model effective patient communication and management for dental students.
- Proactive problem-solver with strong critical thinking skills.
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to multitask effectively.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Able to work in a fast-paced clinical environment supporting multiple operatories and students simultaneously.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Bilingual candidates preferred, but not required.

Dental Assistant license
