Job summary

Alaskajobs is seeking a Deckhand II to join our ferry operations in Alaska. You will assist in loading vehicles and passengers, operate transfer bridges, and perform vessel maintenance to ensure safe and efficient service.

Applicants must have agility and strength, a USCG 100-Ton credential, and an FCC marine radio license, plus a high school diploma. You will work as part of a crew, provide first aid, and support lifeboat and safety drills.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Three years total experience handling and splicing of sheets, lines, tackle and mooring equipment.
  • USCG 100-Ton Merchant Mariner Credential and FCC marine radio license required.
  • Ability to swim and perform life-saving actions during emergencies.
  • Willingness to perform various job-related tasks as situations require.

Responsibilities

  • Direct the loading and unloading of motor vehicles and passengers; block wheels of motor vehicles.
  • Assist in enforcing regulations including passenger smoking aboard ferryboats.
  • Operate ferry transfer bridges and handle lines for mooring vessel to slips.
  • Provide first aid and water rescue as needed.
  • Maintain courteous relationships with the traveling public.
