Job summary

University of Michigan Health-West is seeking a Workstation Technician 1 to install, repair, and support IT hardware and software for a 40-hour week on days (Mon-Fri, 8a-5p). You will deliver technical assistance to users, respond to incidents, and help maintain asset records and system documentation.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED, desktop hardware experience, OS proficiency, and the ability to learn quickly and work independently.

• Experience installing and repairing desktop equipment and peripherals.
• Thorough knowledge of computer operating systems.

• Ability to research PC software and hardware issues.
• Keeps up-to-date with software and hardware technologies.
• Ability to implement hardware and software upgrades and version changes.

Responsibilities

• Provides basic technical assistance for IT software and hardware.
• Provides Tier II support.
• Verifies that all assets serviced are accurately recorded in the asset management database; ensures all assets have an asset tag.
• Coordinates activities with other IT teams.
• Provides updates, status, and completion information to Lead Technician and Manager – Technical Services.
• Utilizes problem request tracking system to manage support requests.
• Communicates with customers regarding support problems on a timely basis.
• Works with other departments to support Metro Health vision and strategy.
• Responds to customer inquiries concerning systems operations and diagnoses system hardware, software, and operator problems.
• Supports IT related projects as requested.
• Fills in for Service Desk staff when needed.
• On Call for after hours and weekends.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
