Job summary

Yahoo Holdings Inc. is seeking a Data Center Technician to support our Lockport, NY data center. You will maintain servers, storage, and networking gear in a 24x7 environment and use AI-assisted tools to diagnose issues and accelerate repairs.

You will automate maintenance tasks, deploy operating systems, manage DNS, and coordinate with engineering teams. On-site work and shift rotations are required, with hybrid options available where noted.

Qualifications

• 2-year degree in a technical field (Computer Science, Information Technology, Electronics) or equivalent practical experience.
• Knowledge of the UNIX/Linux operating environment and basic system administration tasks.
• Basic understanding of TCP/IP networks, Layer 1-3 switching and routing.
• Basic proficiency with scripting languages (BASH, Python, Perl) for admin tasks.
• Familiarity with using AI tools or prompts to assist in generating commands, parsing logs, or debugging scripts.
• Physical ability to lift hardware and work in a data center environment.
• On-site at the Lockport, NY facility with 24x7x365 shift rotations.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and repair rack-mount servers, storage units, and network equipment to ensure high uptime in a 24x7 data center.
• Prioritize incoming operational requests based on urgency and impact.
• Diagnose hardware, Layer 1-3 network, and system issues across infrastructure disciplines.
• Leverage AI-assisted logs to quickly isolate hardware faults and reduce MTTR.
• Automate daily maintenance tasks using AI coding/scripting tools.
• Use in-house tools to deploy OS, DNS updates, configure switches, and provision hosts.
• Collaborate with site engineering and platform teams for complex changes.
• Provide ticket updates and incident details to internal customers.
