Job summary

Yahoo is hiring a Data Center Hardware Technician for the Lockport, NY facility. The role focuses on maintaining rack-mount servers, storage, and network gear in a 24x7 data center, with emphasis on AI-assisted fault isolation and automation to improve MTTR and efficiency.

You'll work on-site in shifts and collaborate with site engineering and platform teams to safely execute complex changes, while applying knowledge of UNIX/Linux, TCP/IP, and scripting to support operations.

Qualifications

• 2-year degree in a technical field (e.g., Computer Science, IT, Electronics) or equivalent practical experience.
• Knowledge of UNIX/Linux operating environment; navigate file systems, analyze permissions, and run system admin commands.
• Basic understanding of TCP/IP networking, Layer 1-3 switching, routing, and structured cabling.
• Familiarity with using AI tools or prompts to generate CLI commands, parse logs, or debug scripts.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and repair rack-mount servers, storage units, and network equipment to ensure high uptime in a 24x7 data center.
• Prioritize incoming operational requests based on urgency and impact.
• Diagnose hardware and network issues across multiple infrastructure domains and perform troubleshooting.
• Identify repetitive tasks and use AI tooling to automate daily maintenance workflows.
• Coordinate with site engineering and platform teams to safely execute complex changes.
• Communicate ticket status and incident resolution details to internal customers.
