Job summary

Yahoo is seeking a Data Center Hardware Technician in Lockport, NY, to maintain and repair rack-mount servers, storage, and network gear while ensuring 24x7 availability. You will diagnose hardware and network faults, leveraging AI-assisted logs to speed MTTR and automate routine tasks with AI-based scripts.

You will deploy operating systems, configure DNS and switches, and provision hosts, collaborating with site engineering and platform teams on complex changes.

Qualifications

• 2-year technical degree or equivalent practical experience.
• Knowledge of UNIX/Linux environment and basic system administration commands.
• Basic understanding of TCP/IP networks, Layer 1-3 switching and cabling.
• Basic scripting in BASH, Python, Perl for admin tasks.
• Familiarity with using AI tools or prompts to assist in generating CLI commands or parsing logs.
• Physical ability to lift hardware and perform work in data center environments.
• On-site work at Lockport, NY and 24x7 shift rotations.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and repair rack-mount servers, storage units, and network equipment to ensure high uptime in a 24x7 data center.
• Prioritize and process incoming operational requests by urgency and impact.
• Diagnose hardware, L1-3 network, and systems issues across infrastructure.
• Leverage AI-assisted logs and diagnostic tools to isolate faults and speed MTTR.
• Identify repetitive tasks and use AI scripting tools to automate maintenance workflows.
• Use internal tools to deploy OS, update DNS, configure switches, and provision hosts.
• Collaborate with site engineering and platform teams to execute complex changes safely.
• Communicate with internal customers on ticket status and incidents.
• Evaluate emerging AI tools to improve speed and accuracy of operations.
• Participate in swing/overnight shifts as part of continuous support.
