Job summary

Yahoo seeks a Data Center Hardware Technician for our Lockport, NY facility. This on-site role supports a green, advanced data center environment with 24x7 operations and shift rotations.

You will repair and maintain racks, storage, and network gear while leveraging AI-assisted diagnostics and automation tools to improve MTTR and efficiency. The ideal candidate has a 2-year technical degree or equivalent, Linux/UNIX experience, and scripting skills.

Qualifications

• 2-year degree or equivalent practical experience.
• Knowledge of UNIX/Linux operating environment and ability to navigate file systems, run admin commands.
• Basic understanding of TCP/IP networks including Layer 1-3 switching and routing.
• Proficiency with scripting (BASH, Python, Perl) for admin tasks.
• Familiarity with using AI tools/LLMs for CLI commands, log parsing, or debugging scripts.
• Physical ability to lift hardware, climb ladders, and work in data center environments.
• Ability to work on-site at the Lockport, NY facility and participate in 24x7x365 shift rotations.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and repair rack-mount servers, storage units, and network equipment to ensure high uptime in a 24x7 data center environment.
• Prioritize incoming operational requests by business urgency and platform impact.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot hardware, L1-3 network, and system issues across multiple infrastructure disciplines.
• Use AI-assisted log analysis and diagnostic tools to rapidly isolate hardware faults and reduce MTTR.
• Identify repetitive tasks and automate daily maintenance workflows with AI coding/scripting tools.
• Utilize in-house tools to deploy OS, update DNS, configure switches, and manage host provisioning.
• Collaborate with site engineering and platform infra teams to safely execute complex change requests.
• Provide updates to internal customers on ticket status and incident resolution.
• Evaluate emerging AI tools/workflows to improve speed and accuracy in operations.
• Perform swing and overnight shift duties as part of rotation.
