Job summary

Yahoo is seeking a Data Center Hardware Technician for the Lockport, NY facility to maintain rack-mount servers, storage, and network gear in a 24x7 data center. You will diagnose hardware and Layer 1-3 network issues, and collaborate with engineering teams to safely implement changes.

Responsibilities include automating routine tasks with scripting, deploying OS images, updating DNS records, configuring switches, and provisioning hosts while leveraging AI tools to accelerate MTTR.

Qualifications

• 2-year technical degree or equivalent practical experience.
• Knowledge of UNIX/Linux environments and basic system administration commands.
• Basic TCP/IP networking knowledge including Layer 1-3 switching and routing.
• Basic scripting ability for routine admin tasks.
• Familiarity with AI tools or prompts to assist CLI commands and logs.
• Physical ability to lift hardware and work in elevated data center environments.
• On-site work requirement at Lockport, NY facility with 24x7x365 shifts.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and repair rack-mount servers, storage units, and network equipment to ensure high uptime in a 24x7 data center.
• Prioritize incoming operational requests by urgency and impact.
• Diagnose hardware, network, and system issues across multiple infrastructure disciplines.
• Leverage AI-assisted log analysis to quickly isolate faults and accelerate MTTR.
• Automate daily maintenance tasks using AI coding/scripting tools.
• Utilize in-house tools to deploy OS, update DNS, configure switches, and provision hosts.
• Collaborate with site engineering and platform infra teams on complex changes.
• Communicate incident status and resolutions to internal contacts.
• Evaluate emerging AI tools and workflows to boost speed and accuracy.
• Fulfill swing/overnight shift duties as part of rotation.
