Job summary

Black Hills Energy, based in Rapid City, SD, is seeking a Director of Data Center Development to drive growth by identifying and cultivating data center clients while managing existing relationships. The role involves building strategic partnerships with hyperscalers and large operators, and coordinating with regulatory and business teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, Engineering, or related field.
• Minimum 10 years of energy-sector experience in business development, finance, account management, project management, strategic planning, or commercial growth.
• Minimum 3 years of leadership experience.
• Minimum 2 years of data center development experience preferred.
• Strong executive presence to engage with senior executives, regulators and large customers.
• Knowledge of utility services, tariffs, and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

• Identify and target data center customers, developing growth strategies to expand the utility's base.
• Lead negotiations with potential data center customers and create compelling proposals and presentations.
• Develop and maintain relationships with data center customers, industry partners, and regulators.
• Coordinate cross-functionally with regulatory, engineering, transmission, generation, finance, legal and operations teams to advance opportunities.
• Monitor market trends to identify new data center opportunities and stay ahead of industry developments.
• Ensure compliance with industry standards and manage risks in client acquisition and negotiations.
• Represent the company with data center partners in business and financial communities.
• Prepare and present reports, proposals, and updates to executive management.
• Provide strategic guidance to business units throughout the project lifecycle.
