Job summary

Black Hills Energy is seeking a Data Center Development Manager to support data center growth opportunities through customer engagement, strategic planning, and cross-functional collaboration. You will help structure commercial opportunities, draft agreements, and coordinate with regulatory, engineering, finance, and legal teams.

The role requires strong communication, financial acumen, and the ability to manage complex programs across multiple stakeholders. Travel up to 25% is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant field is required.
• Minimum of 5 years' experience in the energy sector in business development, finance, account management, project management, strategic planning, or commercial growth.
• Experience in the utility industry or for a data center organization is required.
• Strong understanding of the data center industry and its operational needs; knowledge of utility services in data center operations.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills for executive materials and stakeholder interactions.
• Willingness to travel up to 25%.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate commercial development activities for data center opportunities, including customer engagement and executive-level support.
• Assist the VP of Strategic Growth and Director of Data Centers with customer discussions, commercial negotiations, and strategic partner engagements.
• Develop, review, track, and execute data center customer agreements and related commercial arrangements.
• Lead contract development and negotiations, and contribute to proposals and presentations.
• Coordinate cross-functionally with regulatory, engineering, finance, legal, and operations to advance opportunities.
• Identify and communicate risks affecting scope, schedule, budget, or approvals of data center growth opportunities.
• Develop dashboards, meeting summaries, decision logs, and action trackers for leadership.
• Support pricing inputs, customer commitments, margin opportunities, and financial analyses for projects.
• Develop repeatable tools, templates, governance processes, and reporting frameworks.

Education

Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, Engineering, Public Policy or related field
